Apprentice Teachers (K-8th grade classrooms) for August 2010-June
2012
For those considering a career in teaching, our Apprenticeship
combines solid two-year experience within K-8 classrooms with
formal study of educational ideas and practice. As faculty
of the Arbor School of Arts and Sciences, Apprentice teachers
consider how to develop students' creativity in mathematics,
writing across disciplines, ethics and scientific understanding
utilizing the farm and woods of Arbor's 21 acre campus.
The successful candidate should:
" relish working with children
" demonstrate a collaborative spirit
" have interest in educational theory and practice
" have energy for work that extends beyond the classroom
Three possible pathways:
A. Teaching in an Arbor classroom, meeting Arbor Seminar requirements
for study of educational practice beyond the school day.
B. All of the above, plus enrolling in Arbor Seminars for
credit at Marylhurst.
C. All of the above, plus participating fully in the Marylhurst
MAT/licensure program.

" have a strong liberal arts background
" have 3-5 years of successful teaching experience
" demonstrate a collaborative spirit
" demonstrate use of a variety of pedagogical approaches
" have energy required for engagement within the school
community beyond the classroom
" demonstrate strength in character education
